April’s Passionate Expert of the Month

It was April 2023 when Gemma began volunteering at Tucker Fresh IGA Dalkeith. With the support of her Edge NDIS Employment Support Coach, Gemma enjoyed her role volunteering. This opportunity slowly evolved and with the assistance of the Edge team, Gemma began transitioning to a paid position.

Fast forward 12 months and Gemma was awarded April 2024 Passionate Expert of the Month for her exceptional customer service and outstanding performance.

Gemma loves her role as Customer Service Assistant, “It has given me a purpose, goals, independence and self-esteem. I love to chat to customers and put a smile on people’s faces.”

Through her NDIS plan, Gemma is assisted weekly with Finding and Keeping a Job Support. This support has had a positive impact on Gemma’s employment journey. “I am confident in Edge’s ability to support me with consistent staff, great feedback and good rapport. Edge advocated for me to be on the payroll and supported me. They also challenge me to take on new tasks. I enjoy the time I spend with the Edge staff.”

Employment has had a positive impact on Gemma with her mother sharing, “We love that Gem can contribute to her community, feel connected and independent. Just like any parent, we want to see our kids grow and have purpose. And, she can help pay for her extensive perfume collection!”

When Gemma isn’t providing exceptional customer service at Tucker Fresh IGA, she can be found supporting West Coast Fever at home games and playing for the Perth No Limits netball team.
