Growing with local support
Brendon, one of our NDIS clients is benefiting from the support and opportunities in the Perth Hills Community. Working with Brendon under his NDIS plan is NDIS Employment Support Coach Lee-Caroline, who has seen immense growth in Brendon through his two work experience placements.
“Brendon’s progress is inspiring. His confidence to work with people—his favourite thing to do—has flourished, along with his skills in following instructions and improving his working memory. This growth has significantly boosted his readiness for paid employment. His strong family support network has also been instrumental in his journey, providing encouragement and stability every step of the way. With their backing, Brendon is now taking the next big step by working towards a Certificate I in Gaining Access to Training and Employment at South Metropolitan TAFE. I have no doubt he has a bright future ahead,” said Lee-Caroline.
Chidlow Café has created a supportive and welcoming environment where Brendon learned to serve customers, take orders and manage the cash register. “Karen Noonan, owner of Chidlow Café, and their supportive team are strong advocates for supporting local youth and people with disability, ensuring that inclusivity and accessibility remain at the heart of their work,” shared Lee-Caroline.
Brendon has also completed two months of work experience at Magnus Gym, which has been another important opportunity in his employment career, allowing him to learn new skills and understand a new working environment.
Lee-Caroline shared, “Simon from Magnus Gym was instrumental in helping Brendon with his first steps into work experience after leaving school. Simon’s friendly nature, along with all the staff and members at Magnus Gym, encouraged and supported Brendon to extend himself and motivated him to work hard.”
“The Perth Hills community has once again come through supporting our young people with disability. Their level of support and encouragement has been amazing, the dignity and care they have provided Brendon in these opportunities will go a long way in helping him reach his goal of meaningful employment and independence,” said Lee-Caroline.
