Sense of purpose

Daniel’s story is testament to the power of employment. For the past two and half years, Daniel has been thriving as a Fresh Produce Team Member at Woolworths.
Weekly support from Edge Job Coach Natalie has assisted Daniel’s development, “It was easier to adjust to the working environment with my Job Coach who made sure I maintained regular work hours for consistency in my routine. My Job Coach has liaised with managers, supporting changes to hours and contracts, checking in weekly with both onsite and offsite support.
My confidence is also boosted, and I am empowered to have conversations with management which has built good relationships. My Job Coach has been supportive ensuring I am able to have open conversations regarding my mental health and to support me to maintain employment.”
Recognising the importance of a supportive managerial network, Daniel acknowledges the understanding and flexibility provided by his Woolworths managers, “They provide flexibility in my hours. My management team are supportive and have an understanding of my different abilities including providing time off if required. My managers are inclusive and are very good to work for with new challenges each day. Work keeps me well physically and mentally.”
Motivated and reliable, Daniel is known for his hard working nature and ability to take on constructive feedback. Throughout his tenure at the Alexander Heights Woolworths store, he has consistently earned praise and recognition from his colleagues and customers.
As parting advice for employers considering hiring people with disability, Daniel shared, “Never judge on appearance. Appearance never determines someone’s ability to work.”
